  About Fulham DFC

Today, Fulham DFC is the largest deaf football club in Great Britain, boasting two squads for the men, a ladies squad and two youth squads.  The club is deaf led, and is run by a committee of volunteers, operating under the umbrella of the Fulham FC Foundation.

Fulham DFC Train at the Fulham FC Training Ground at Motspur Park, the Men's squads play their home games at the Training Ground, with the Ladies playing at the Fairfield Recreation Ground, Kingston.

Men's 1st Team

The men's 1st team squad after spending four years in the Kingston & District Football League in 2008 moved to the Surrey South Eastern Combination Junior Division One, and last year won promotion to the Intermediate Division Two, which is Level 13 in the Football League System.

In the six years the Men's squad have been promoted four times and relegated once, winning the British Deaf Cup two times, the English Deaf Cup once as well as winning the TECK Intermediate Cup and League Intermediate Cup while with the Kingston & District Football League.

Ayad Sarraf, who took over from Christof Niklaus in November 2005, manages the men's squad.  Christof Niklaus in his first year of football management set the standard for Fulham DFC by leading the club to an incredible treble in its first season, to date Ayad Sarraf has impressively built on the foundations Christof set, taking FDFC to the lofty heights of the Surrey South Eastern Combination Intermediate Division Two, and winning numerous cups with a very strong squad, blessed with a healthy mix of experienced and young up and coming players.

Men's Reserves

The men's reserve squad was formed for the 2007-2008 season, and registered to play in the West Fulham Sunday Football League Division One.  The reserve squad was formed to offer football to those on the fringes of the first team squad, and act as a bridge for players coming up from the youth squad, so they could further develop their game before knocking on the door for the first team. Ivan Stone was the squads first manager, after him Leo Mansell managed the squad for a  year.  The reserves are now managed by Chris McGinn who holds the UEFA B Licence, and has in his short time at the club dramatically improved reserves performances and results.

Ladies

The Ladies squad started off as a 5-a-side team, and after two years found enough players to register themselves as a 11-a-side squad with the Greater London Women's Football League, starting in Division 3.  Still today, Fulham DFC Ladies are the only deaf ladies football club competing in a mainstream 11-a-side league. In May 2009, the Ladies squad, managed by Ryan Pendley who took over from Esther Maycock in 2008 made Ladies deaf football history with a stunning treble, winning the Russell Cup and the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy, as well as the Greater London Women's Football League Division Four Championships.

Youth

The Youth squad has changed in remit and size over the years, the Fulham FC Foundation now run a U14 and U17 youth squad, with up to fourteen players per squad.  The youth Squad is predominantly funded through the FA Centre of Excellence programme and links directly into Surrey FA disability remit.   In 2005, the youth squad travelled to Berlin, Germany beat all other International clubs to win the tournament.  It is no wonder that four years on, the 1st Team squad and Reserve squad are littered with players from the youth squad, notably goal machine Jacob Willis, midfielder Daniel Waller, defender Kane Joyce and many others.

International Stars

Fulham DFC have a proud record of international stars to boast in its short six years.  The trend started in 2005 with then club captain Nick Beese captaining Great Britain to win gold at the 20th Summer Deaflympics in Melbourne, Australia with Ben Lampert, Ayad Sarraf, Andrew Drury and former FDFC Goalkeeper, Richard Parker as well as current club captain Jonathan Evans and Nicholas Gregory who were at the time playing for different clubs.  Great Britain ladies with current club captain Esther Maycock, and Lydia Docker and the late Sarah Davies won bronze at the 2005 Deaflympics.

Fulham DFC sent a record fifteen players from the club to represent both Great Britain and Ireland at 21st Summer Deaflympics, at Taiwan, Tapei in October 2009.

Club captain Jon Evans was also elected captain of Great Britain, Ben Lampert, Daniel Hogan, current club manager Ayad Sarraf as Assistant Manager and Mark Gill as Logistics Manager and Coach were all part of the Great Britain squad who had a frustrating Deaflympics, finishing in 9th place despite only losing one game in the entire tournament.

Bryan Moore and Eoin Burns represented Ireland and finished in 8th place.

Great Britain Women were boosted by eight players from the treble winning Fulham Deaf Ladies squad narrowly missed out on winning bronze, after losing to Russia in the bronze medal play off.

Club captain Esther Maycock was elected captain of Great Britain, Susanna Kenward, Roanna Simmons, Victoria Wenman, Camilla Willis, Esther Maycock (Captain), Clare Davies and Natasha Ryan were all part of the squad who finished 4th overall.

The Future of Fulham DFC

Fulham DFC Men and Women continue to work towards the ambition of being the highest ever-ranked disabled football team in the football league pyramid. The clubs undying ambition is to climb the football league pyramid and develop world class deaf footballers.

Support from the Fulham FC Foundation

Fulham DFC's success to date has been largely down to its special relationship with the Fulham FC Foundation, who have supported the club by allowing all squads to train and play matches at the first class Fulham FC Training Ground, as well as kit the squads with Fulham FC training and match day kit.

Support from Mohammed Al Fayed

Fulham DFC have been very privileged to have the support of the Fulham FC Chairman, Mohammed Al Fayed.  Mohammed very generously donated £10,000 to complete all the individual fundraising targets for all twelve Fulham DFC players who had to each raise £3,000 to represent Great Britain in the 2009 Deaflympics in Taiwan.

Fulham Deaf Football Clubs aims are to:
